Awesome Tutorial!!! but…arent you supposed to add a little rooting agent into the water? and when you put clones in to that system and get roots–where do you go from there? can somebody link me a video or something to the step after rooting?.. thanks guys

“Light pruning”?? Never heard of that…never had it happen either. Are you sure about that? I’ve used my own home-built systems & cloners with those plastic storage containers for years. Never painted them black. Some green algae, but never so much it was an issue. I did paint one once, the paint flaked off all over the place. What a mess that was. Never did it again. Never have had anything other than “air pruning” from the roots outgrowing the net containers (drip & flood/drain).

Rexenne I tested both side by side and covered has whiter more healthy bigger roots. Also tested STG vs. Hydroton vs. RW Cube and STG has faster growth rate.
STG thanks for the Neoprene Puck replacement they squeeze stem too hard and the STG coforms to the shape of the stem with little resistance.

did you prep the plastic properly? if not then this is the method I use to paint plastic: wash the plastic thoroughly, then, using a paint that was meant for plastics, spray paint as usual.

i have a couple of questions:
1. do I need to use a hydroponic medium to grow hydroponic plants?
2. do i need to manage pH levels to gain maximum growth from my hydroponic plants?

14 SureToGrowers 09/07/2009 at 1:21 am

There is no real definition as to what a “hydroponic media” is so the short answer is no but many media options lend themselves to hydroponics while others do not. I have found STG to be my media of choice. As far as pH is concerned it is imperative to keep your pH between 5.6 and 6.3 for optimum results. Hydroponic nutrients are chelated and for them to become “active” they must be released from their chelating agent this is done by making the solution slightly acidic.

Tom,
I do concur Flairform is one of the best nutrients out there and it has made it into my personal rotation as well.

Wow… I can do this. Thank you so much. I have been looking at aeroponic and hydroponic systems for the past few months and couldnt wrap my head around it until this vid.

What grow lights do you recommend for greens and tomatoes?
